Streaming Media at Regis University
How to create streaming media
Regis streaming server uses a Real™ Server technology. That
means that the primary delivery format of streaming media will
be a .rm file, which requires that audience members download and
install Real's media player RealPlayer to listen to or view the
files. The software tools you need to create streaming files (.rm
files) are available from
RealNetworks.
Overview
Step 1: Create a streaming file
Step 2: Request space on the streaming
server and deliver the file to the Center for Academic
Technology for upload
Step 3: Link to the file from a Web Page
Not all audio or
video file formats can be converted to streaming.
Capabilities differ between what the Macintosh or Windows
versions of these conversion applications can do.
Digitizing from a live or taped source also requires a fast
Windows computer with a large capacity hard drive.
[If you do not have the necessary software or hardware, the ATC
lab is available for digitizing materials and creating streaming
files.]
