What do I need to travel to Brazil?
Passport and Visa
Travel in and out of Brazil is easy, but you will need a passport and a
Brazilian visa. Apply for both at least a couple of months in advance
because both can take time. Visit the
US government
passport site for further information. The
Brazilian embassy in Washington D.C. has
the latest on visa requirements.
Health
You will need a variety of immunizations to protect against hepatitis,
typhoid, tetanus, yellow fever, and other diseases. If you plan to travel
in the Amazon, you will also need anti-malarial medications. Set up an
appointment at least six weeks before departure, and preferably much earlier.
Some shots must be given at separate times and may take boosters to maintain
full effect. The Center for Disease
Control (CDC) is an excellent source of travel-related health information.
Private companies such as Passport
Health also offer immunizations and travel advice.
Flights
It's as simple as calling your travel agent and making a reservation.
Most likely, you will be flying to Belo Horizonte, or to Recife and then taking
a bus to Maceio. But if you are adventurous you might also be visiting
Rio, Sao Paulo, or even another nearby country like Bolivia.
Lodging
It's taken care of for you! After deciding which university, you will
be provided lodging in consultation with their study abroad program. See
us for details.
