University of Denver Building on the
University of Denver’s existing partnerships with Denver
Public Schools, AmeriCorps*VISTA members Sarah McCauley
and Sarah Rauenhorst directly oversee Public Achievement
programs at Bruce Randolph School, Highline Academy,
North High School and Merrill Middle School
while supporting additional Public Achievements programs
at South High, Teller Elementary and Ellis Elementary.
Public Achievement
programs connect about 150 DPS students with 45 DU
student coaches, who meet weekly to build meaningful
relationships with the students and ensure the success
of the program. Sarah M. has also developed a PA
Curriculum and Handbook as well as trainings to ensure
program sustainability.

Sarah McCauley recently graduated from the
University of Denver with a BA in International
Studies and German. In addition to studying in
Vienna, where she taught German and English to
middle school students, she has participated in
service-learning programs in Bosnia-Herzegovina
and northern India, teaching English to Tibetan
refugees. As a Colorado Campus Compact VISTA at
her alma mater, Sarah coordinates a number of
Public Achievement service-learning programs and
assists in the direction of the Puksta Scholars
Program. Her future interests include pursuing a
law degree with specialization in international
law and human rights. While Sarah loves
Colorado, she dreams of returning to Bosnia to
work on political development issues. |

Sarah Rauenhorst graduated from the
University of Notre Dame last May after majoring
in Political Science and with a minor in Public
Service. She has been involved in
service-learning throughout her time abroad in
Santiago, Chile and college career, but wanted
to continue her support of it after graduation.
Sarah chose to become a volunteer for ACCESS
Colorado because she passionately believes in
the success of service-learning and the
importance of educating our youth. She also
understands the importance of working with and
understanding people before going to graduate
school. Specifically, Sarah hopes to learn more
about Denver’s public school system while making
an impact in youth’s lives and helping them to
harness their energies and make a difference in
their schools and communities.
