Mission

Mesa State College shall offer liberal arts and sciences programs and a limited number of professional, technical, and graduate programs. Mesa State College shall also maintain a community college role and mission, including vocational and technical programs. The Mesa State College community aspires to provide an environment which promotes a wellness lifestyle free of addictive behaviors. It shall be a goal of Mesa State College to maintain a healthy campus atmosphere conducive to learning and personal safety.

Market Niche

Primary point of access to four year education in the north western slope. On the Western Slope, the immediate service areas of Mesa, Montrose, Delta, and Garfield counties are the institution’s primary Western Slope target market that account for and make up 56 percent of its undergraduate population. A significant proportion of
students from these areas represent first-generation and low-income families. On the Front Range approximately 35 percent of the enrolled students are from counties in the Eastern Slope. The students are traditional college age and are from primarily white, suburban, middle-class schools.

Economy: Major industries are agriculture, tourism, light manufacturing, services/industry. Tourist attractions include the Colorado National Monument, Grand Mesa, vineyards, and skiing.

  • Grand Junction is noted for having more opportunities for outdoor recreation within a 100-mile radius of its boundaries than any other city in the Western United States.
