About UCAN Serve

UCAN Serve is a part-time AmeriCorps program with 37 participating sites in Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.  UCAN Serve is a campus-based program, engaging students and community members in meaningful service to address critical needs in local communities through higher education.  Oftentimes, UCAN Serve is connected with Careers in the Common Good academic departments such as Healthcare Professions, Education, Social Work, Fire Sciences, Sociology, and Criminal Justice to support students on their path toward professions that serve the public interest.

Students also become involved in UCAN Serve through service learning experiences, student leadership groups, honors societies, sororities and fraternities, and independent volunteerism.  All of the different forms of community engagement can be applied to a term of service as a UCAN Serve AmeriCorps member.

"Our students receive an important education from their service in the community.  When students engage in direct service with community members they enhance their college experience and they share their own talents beyond the classroom and beyond themselves.  The privilege of higher education comes with an obligation to share that privilege with the greater community."

-John Gudvangen, Associate Director of Financial Aid, Colorado College-
