Qualified UCAN Serve Sites

UCAN Serve members may serve at any nonprofit, faith-based, municipal, and governmental organization for their term of service.  Service sites can focus on a range of issues, including human needs, education, social services, public health and safety, animal welfare, arts and culture, and environmental conservation, among many others.  Check below for resources in each service category. 

Members may not serve in for-profit agencies as part of their term of service.

Public Health & Safety: All nonprofit, faith-based, municipal, and governmental public health and safety organizations are appropriate service sites for UCAN Serve members.  For a listing of nonprofit healthcare sites in Colorado please visit:

Education: In order to qualify as an appropriate site placement for the UCAN Serve program, a K-12 public school must meet at least one of the following categories.  These categories and academic areas have been identified both nationally and regionally as areas of critical teacher shortages for K-12 schools.

  • Title I status

  • Free and Reduced Lunch percentages (greater than or equal to 50%)

  • Student mobility percentages (greater than or equal to 40%)

  • Minority student percentages (greater than or equal to 50%)

  • CSAP or UT, AZ, NM state assessments (low or unsatisfactory rating)

  • Student drop-out rates (greater than 5%)

Members may also qualify separately from the site placement if they are focusing their service in at least one of the following specific academic areas:

  • Special Education

  • ESL/Bilingual Education

  • Math & Science Education
