In Fall 2008, I am teaching 

• the introductory calculus-based general physics course, PH304A, including mechanics and thermodynamics;
• its algebra/trigonometry-based counterpart, PH202A;
• the laboratory for the algebra/trigonometry-based course, PH205A;
• modern physics, PH450;
• the laboratory for modern physics, PH451.

My research interests are in the area of experimental "nuclear" physics. The quotation marks reflect the fact that nuclear physics is increasingly simply an approach to the study of subatomic systems, complementary to high-energy physics: it is not limited to the interactions of protons and neutrons within nuclei.  In recent years, I have been involved in several efforts:

• Measurement of the rate of muon capture on the proton: the muCap experiment
• ...which is evolving into a measurement of the rate of muon capture on the deuteron: the muSun experiment
• Measurement of backgrounds at the future site of the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (currently the Sanford Laboratory)
• Measurement of the positive muon lifetime: the muLan experiment
• Studies of reactor antineutrinos: the KamLAND experiment
• Measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment: the muon g-2 experiment
