Project 1 Personal Project. Create a suite of at least three images that relate to each other. The nature of their relationship is up to you. Decide how to output this set of images so that they have some kind of physical presence in the real world. Those of you who are art majors need to be thinking about building your final portfolio, so this may influence how you chose to present these images. These will be presented (in finished form) to the class during our final exam period at 10:10 am on Monday, May 3rd
Project 2 Psalms in Praise of the Earth. We have been invited to create a set of banners on fabric which will be hung in the Chapel between April 1st and April 22nd when there will be a special non-denominational Psalms service in celebration of Earth Day. We will be looking at illuminated manuscripts throughout history for inspiration, although the pieces we create are not bound by the conventions of the past and are free to have a contemporary look and feel. Image size for this project will be 23x 72 by 150 ppi.
Project 3 Optional. Create a prayer flag with your prayer for the earth, to be printed on silk and displayed in the arcade in front of the Chapel from April 1st until Earth Day (April 22nd). Image size 8x 9 by 150 ppi. Prayer flag itself is 8x 8, with a 1 band of solid color at the top for the casing for the string that will hang them.
Final critique of personal projects will be held during the regularly scheduled Final Exam period: 10:10 am Friday, May 7th
Course Withdrawal
Policy: Students are expected to know and observe the published deadlines for (a)
dropping the course and (b) withdrawing from the course. These deadlines are published on the University's Academic Calendar, which is available in the Bulletin, the course schedule, and is in the Dean's Office. Please observe the following dates: Last Day to Drop the Course: January 26, 2010; Last Day to Withdraw from the Course (no refund): March 26, 2010. THESE DEADLINES ARE NOT FLEXIBLE.
Learning Support: If you have a documented disability requiring academic adjustments for this class, please contact the Director of Disability Services, Joie Williams, (303-458-4941, mbwillia@regis.edu) who will review your documentation with you and help determine appropriate, reasonable accommodations. Following this meeting, please make an appointment with me, as your instructor, to discuss your accommodation request in light of the course requirements. You may self-disclose and request an academic adjustment any time during the term. However, I strongly recommend that you do so as soon as possible because accommodations are not provided retroactively and adequate lead-time is required.
Grading: This is an Advanced class. Most of you are art majors although some are not. In this Post Modern Age, a certain chaos reigns in the Art World. Taste in art is a very subjective matter, especially when it comes to digital art, which lacks the long history and tradition which are attached to disciplines like printmaking or painting or even photography. However, it is expected that your work will reflect a professional quality that would be reflected by an artist who is serious about their work. Whether or not I personally relate to the subject matter or style of your work, professional work has certain qualities.
Qualities of A work:
Work is turned in on time
Meets the technical criteria of the project
Shows attention to detail, especially at the edges of selected areas
Thought has been given to composition and use of color
Work contains original source material
Work is visually attractive or makes a coherent visual statement
