Almost
three
years ago I gleefully joined Regis University as their new Assistant
Professor of Mathematics!
This
followed on the heels of 7 years of employment as a mathematician and
software-developer with International Business Machines Printing Systems
in Boulder,
Colorado. Before joining IBM, I spent eight
years teaching mathematics and statistics at the undergraduate level in
both university and community college settings. Almost immediately
after I received my doctorate, I stumbled across an opportunity to work
for IBM as an intern, working with a team to develop a new high-speed
industrial color printer. Having been a starving student for so many
years and needing a break from academia, I went for it! It was an
amazing experience and a productive one as well. Over seven years at IBM
I was a co-inventor on 12 patents, and published 4 papers. Most of this
work is in the area of signal and image processing, with a specific
focus on JPEG image processing.
That
was all well-and-good, but this is better. Home is where the heart
is, eh?
When
I'm not focused on teaching I spend my time with my
dog-friends Cali and Cedar. This may also include
activities like mountain biking, making music, or video gaming.
I'm
also very interested in critical thinking and skepticism, so if you'd ever like to chat about such matters, please
stop by sometime.
